Just two months, almost to the day, since I launched Adventurous Alysha, I’m being nominated for my first award!
Today here in sunny Australia, I was incredibly proud, and a little confused, to find out that I’ve been nominated for the Bloggers Recognition Award. It’s such a great feeling to know that I’m being recognised by others in the blogging community for my dedication to Adventurous Alysha and our readers. It’s strange to seem an expert in a field that I’m kind of fumbling through myself, but knowing that I’m actually making a difference for those out there living with mental illnesses and longing for a life of travel, makes all the difficult days 110% worth it.
I’d love to thank the wonderful woman who nominated me, Courtney, from Backpacking Ruffian. Her kind words gave me the little lift I’ve needed lately to continue on my journey with Adventurous Alysha! Not every day feels successful. Sometimes it feels like I’m going nowhere, and that I couldn’t possibly make a difference in this huge world we live in. But it’s the recognition from people like Courtney, and the love shared from women in our testimonials, that makes me strive harder every day.
So what exactly is the Blogger’s Recognition Award?
A question I asked myself a little while ago when I first came across it! But this award is given to bloggers by bloggers, to recognise the hard work and dedication it takes to keep up an engaging website. To draw attention to those always working hard in their niche, and to let them know they’re being noticed.
How did I start my blog?
Adventurous Alysha is a site I created to just share my journey with others, in the hopes that we can all take life a little less seriously together. I wanted to create a safe space for those suffering anxiety, and other mental illnesses, to be able to remove the stigma and be as open as possible. Travel is the greatest passion in my life, and mental illness or not, I’ve found it’s the greatest passion in a lot of people’s lives. So to be told, by your own mind, that you don’t deserve it, or that you can’t do it, is extraordinarily crippling.
And usually, in the ripe ol’ age of Instagram, people tend to hide behind the incredible views and the crystal clear waters and pretend everything is fine. But it’s okay not to be okay. And I wanted to bring that to the forefront of everyone’s minds. Life is meant to be lived; however it is you see fit. Adventurous Alysha is about being different, being strong, supporting each other, and just going after what it is you love the most.

Two pieces of advice to those new to blogging:
My first piece of advice is to just be so consistent in your field. In one of my all-time favourite books The Slight Edge, it says “Do the thing, and you shall have the power.” So literally just show up, every day, and commit to your craft. Whatever it is, do it so often and so well that in time you’ll be the best of the best. People often lose out on something great, just because they gave up too early. Trust in what you’ve decided to do.
And my second piece of advice is to market yourself more than you write. Network with others and stretch outside of your niche. I don’t only follow and interact with travel bloggers because that would leave me as one in a million. Your writing might be magnificent, but if no one is reading it, you’re writing only to yourself (and maybe your parents).
My 15 nominees:
This was such a tough task! To pick 15 bloggers worthy of the Blogger’s Recognition Award. Partly because I’m relatively new to the blogging community, and partly because there are so many worthy of this award that picking 15 is surprisingly difficult. But here, in no order, are my 15 worthy bloggers. Some incredibly good friends, and others, soon to be incredibly good friends!

I’ve been nominated! Now what?
When you are nominated, there are few simple steps that you need to take to accept the award nomination and the guidelines are as follows:
- Write a post to show your award.
- Thank the blogger who nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
- Give a brief story of how your blog started.
- Give two pieces of advice to new bloggers.
- Select 15 other bloggers to nominate.
- Comment on each blog’s “About Me” section and let them know that you have nominated them and provide the link to the post you created.
Congratulations to all of the nominees, you are all so deserving! It takes a lot to create and upkeep an engaging website, and I admire you all.
